The properties of the surface layer have a significant impact on the reliability and operational capabilities of machines. Owned equipment allows to determine such parameters of thin coatings as microhardness, nanohardness, scratch resistance or Young’s modulus.
The method is based on the continuously measurement of position of the inteder and applied loading and unloading force. After each complete cycle the graph of force applied to the indenter is plotted, as a function of displacement (which is the penetration depth). With the system, that allows highly accurate positioning of the test sample, it is possible to precisely determine the place of measurement. Accurate measurement of the force of the indenter and its positioning translates into the ability to perform such measurements as measurements of thin coatings or measurements on small areas. The device is also capable of Vickers hardness measurements.
